My Florida Diary .....

One of my favourite attractions!

This post doesn't really need so many words as the pictures do all the talking!

After an incredible 2 week holiday in Florida with my family we arrived home exhausted and probably needing another holiday to recuperate, but full of incredible memories, especially as we were honoured to see the whole experience through my daughter's little eyes.  

It's a surreal, magical place and even i got totally starstruck meeting Mickey Mouse in the flesh........ or should I say fur??!

Check out the dark cloud hovering over the castle...... an hour later and we were drenched!!

Swan Over & Out...

As I write this post our last Swan Lake of the season is currently underway.  I can not believe how fast this year has gone, what seemed like such a huge change last year, leaving Portugal to come and join a new company felt like such a gigantic step.  But now, nearly a year on, I am so happy and settled in my new theatre and have loved the experience of merging in to the next chapter of my career..... even blossoming into a new refreshed dancer....  I have certainly enjoyed the pleasure of falling in love with dance all over again and feel privileged to be in a job I adore.

Studs and Curls...

One more day left and then my poor hair will be so happy to have a break from all the hairspray, head dresses and hair pins it endures over a season!  Though saying that, I'm so into trying new styles with my tresses that while I'm going through this 'hair phase' a breather for it is highly unlikely!

On a serious note, I'm looking forward to my holiday. My body is tired and is crying out for a recuperation period!!  I'm also looking forward to focusing 'CharlieHearts' on the other passions of my life for the next 8 weeks as I rest, recover and enjoy some time off from being a ballerina!!! :)

Rainbow Brite...

It's not so often I dress myself in top and bottom black, but on this occasion I left the pink tips of my hair to do the talking.  With pastel hair gracing the pages of many fashion magazines, I'm looking forward to a summer of 'rainbowed' tresses!

Before, During, After...

The time flies and I can't believe the season is nearly finished....

On Sunday we had our last performance (this season) of 'Rosalinde'.  

The performance for the audience begins with the first curtain up and ends with our bows.  For the dancers it's a good class beforehand, enough time for hair and make up, another quick warm up and then we begin our performance.  Afterwards when the audience are already gone, the stage is cleared, we have our corrections, discuss amongst our dressing room the 'highlights' and not so HIGHTlights of our performance, remove our makeup and finally retreat to our beds...... though this particular day it was off to bowling!!!!

The Stalker Swan....

Swan Lake haunts me.... Where ever I have been in my professional career the ballet has, thus me now dancing in my fifth version!  

Don't take me the wrong way though :-/  It's a ballet every dancer must 'wear the t-shirt to', a timeless classic, incredible music and the time you most feel like a 'ballerina'!!!  (As you've probably gathered there's a bit of a love/hate relationship going on here!)  It's hard work but in an exhilarating way and your legs ache all the way to bed!

Feathered And Booted

You'd have thought by now I'd be ready for the loud bang at the end of Act II of Rosalinde, but no, every performance as we take our finishing pose, the bang of the confetti falling gives me a fright and I practically jump out of my skin :)

Rosalinde is one of my favourite costumes, it's easy to dance in and providing the feathers are all pinned down you don't end up eating them (I have a few times during the pirouettes, thus learning my lesson as to where to place the grips!)

These next two weeks are the final push of the season, and then holidays!!!!

I know for sure that my knee is looking forward to the rest!!!

Rosalinde Returns...

It's November since I last danced 'Rosalinde', so it was brain into gear this week to take my mind and body back to the choreography!  'Rosalinde's a fun ballet to do, consisting of a lot of waltzing around to Strauss so I'm looking forward to the change....

Two 'Rosalinde's', two 'Modigliani's' and two 'Swan Lake' performances to go and then it's the end of the season.   My body feels like it's already trying to take itself on holiday, but only 3 weeks to go and then our official vacations begin :)
