On Stage...

Working with ballet companies differs so much.  One thing I love about working here is the rotation of performances, we are usually rehearsing four different pieces in the week and will perform two to three different ballets varying between Thursday evening through to Sunday.  For me it keeps the choreography fresh and you don't feel bored dancing the same ballet night after night!

Last night we danced Thomas Edur's ' Modigliani and tomorrow we will perform 'Coppelia'!

We are very busy rehearsing 'Cinderella' at the moment, which will premiere in November.  I love the choreography and going by my costume fitting yesterday, the costumes are going to be amazing..... hot pink...... very me!!!!!

A day in the life...

After numerous requests to starting posting 'my typical day', it was about time I got around to doing just that!!  

As we are only just warming up to that start of the season, days are not so frantic! (though I do still think I need more than 24 hours to a day!)

As the weeks pass, days will feel shorter, crazier and tiring.... but also performances, which are the 'perks' to all our hard work!  I'll try and make this post a regular fixture to my blog.

It took nearly an hour to sort out my things!!! Have way too much ballet gear, no idea how I collected so much OR how it all fits in my cupboard, but on the plus side, found things I had totally forgotten I owned :)

We have an hour and a quarter class every morning.  We always have separate girls and boys classes and rotate different teachers throughout the week.

Usually after a 15 minute break, our first rehearsal of the day begins..... 

It isn't everyday that we walk on to stage to find the inside of a church set out!!!

This set was for the opera, so we took the opportunity to sit amongst the pews, waiting for the stage crew to remove it!

I am an avid fan of pilates, this last year in particular.... 

My new interest is also the gym!  Naturally being on the skinny side, I am determined to beef up..... a little!!! Concentrating on my abdominals, back and arms, it's a killer and I have to force myself in there, murmuring the mantra in my head of NO PAIN, NO GAIN!!! (Is that true!!!???)

The Opera House has a new, swanky looking piano this season and we took to the stage to introduce it to the world!!!

At the end of a long day,  it's costumes hung up and time for home.....

Busy Brain!

My brain and body is swimming with 3 ballets at the moment!  It's such a good feeling to be busy with something that I love to do and each night I fall asleep as soon as my head touches my pillow!  

Thus why, I already feel ready for bed and will save you all from my tired ramlings!!!!

Is it 'correct' for me to say that I can have a bit of a love/hate relationship with my ballet?

Yesterday I had a hate day

Today I was in love!

If only it was just a case of looking pretty and twirling around a grand stage!!!!

The strive to perfection that we battle with every day can get intense.  For all of these years I've tried to train myself to 'get over' the frustrating times!  I'm still trying to 'teach' myself, but I'm getting there!!!  Probably by the time I actually get to that point it'll be my time to retire! 

 But then I think to myself that obviously that is the time to retire as you no longer have to strive for something!

It's an ongoing battle!

I can't imagine to not get up in morning and dance. 

 It's been my life since I was a child and it's as normal to me as sleeping, eating and living.....

Well they do say that there is a very thin line between love and hate!!!!

FAB take 2

Today was a productive day at work, but i can't understand how i can be so tired at 5pm, but wide awake now at 1030pm and for sure won't be able to get out of bed when my alarm goes off at 7am tomorrow morning.

.  I'll do what i do every single morning which is snooze my phone roughly 4 or 5 times.... 

At least I'm lucky enough to get my cup of coffee brought to me in bed every morning.  That helps the waking up process!

As you can see I love my FAB things!!!  I have plenty more to post too!!!

I'm super motivated at the moment, more than usual anyway! I think a big part of it, is that i have such great classes with a really wonderful teacher..... wow it makes such a difference in your approach to your work when you start your day like that!

Tomorrow is another BIG day....... but then when tomorrow morning is done and dusted and all is well then I'll be a happy bunny......  So keep those positive thoughts coming tomorrow :)

Snappy Happy Tuesday

I had the most amazing ballet class with a Russian teacher today, but it totally wiped me out!!!!!  

Like a true baby, i even nearly nodded off on the way home.

So i will go to bed happy and probably wake up aching!!!!! 

But it was worth it :)

I got thinking about how much we must put our body through with ballet.  

But because it's something that i have done ever since i was barely out of nappies, i really take it for granted that actually what we put our bodies through isn't entirely 'normal'!!!!

So the next time i get angry with myself, that those 'pirouettes' on one leg, on the tip of my toe, my other leg bent up behind me and my arms above my head' don't work out so well...... I'll take a step back and rethink what i am actually asking my body to do and not get so frustrated!!! ;)

This is another of my FAB warm up suits, she knows me so well with the colours and style and this is one of my favourites :)

Tomorrow i will have two separate pieces of very important news that will put my career on a fresh path.  I  think I'm going to end up sleeping all night with my fingers crossed!
